Foliage: Its leaves are large and paddle-shaped. The leaf blades are torn into many pieces, making a characteristic shredded look to the plant.

Flowers: Its inflorescence is long and pendulant. The showy bracts are light-pink, fading to pale green at the margins. The inconspicuous flowers are green, hidden inside the bracts.
