Key botanical
characters: Rhizome creeping. Leafy shoots up to 4.5 m high. Leaves shortly petiolate; lamina 50-60 x 10-12 cm, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate,
upper surface glabrous, lower surface pubescent; ligule c. 1 cm long,
entire, coriaceous, pubescent. Inflorescence upto 10 cm long,
oblong-cylindrical. Bracts c. 2
x 1 cm, obovate, acute, pink, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, margin shortly
ciliate towards the apex. Flower
yellow. Capsule globular, 2.5-3 x
2-2.5 cm, densely echinate, reddish. |
