Key botanical characters: Rhizome
2.8–4 cm wide, creamy white internally, pale pink externally, slightly
aromatic. Leafy shoot 1.3–3 m high, robust. Leaves spreading, sessile; lamina
45–62 x 6.3–8.4 cm, elliptic, dark green and glabrous above, pale green and
sericeous below; margin undulate, membranous, translucent. Inflorescence
52–60 cm long, cylindrical, lax, erect; peduncle green, pubescent. Bracts
3.6–3.8 x 1.2–1.4 cm, elliptic, green, glabrous, hairy at tip, coriaceous,
convolute, cincinnus 1 or 2-flowered. Flower 11–11.3 cm long, white with a
pink stamen, many flowers open at a time, ascending, become descending on
second day, slightly fragrant. |
