Key botanical characters:

Terrestrial, perennial rhizomatous herb, 2–3 m high; stem round, green, glabrous. Leaves alternate, more spiral phyllotaxy, petiolate; petiole 0.5–1cm long, green, glabrous; lamina 10.5–21 × 2.8–6 cm, ovate or lanceolate, green. Inflorescence produced directly from underground rhizome, spike; peduncle 10–25 cm long; spike 6–15 × 4.1–6 cm, conical, ovate, globose or elongate, one or two flowers opened at a time, green. Bract numerous,closely arranged, scarious, smooth and shiny; c. 3.4 × c. 4.4 cm, ovate, green. Flower bisexual, white.
