Widely used in traditional medicine. The plant is mucilaginous and is considered astringent, tonic, alterative, diuretic and purgative
Key botanical characters: 
Stout creepers. Leaves alternate, shallowly 2-lobed, 2-5 x 3-6 cm, base truncate, lateral nerves c. 6 pairs, coriaceous; petiole 2-4 cm long. Flower(s) solitary or few in axillary panicles. Calyx-lobes unequal, ovate, acuminate, outer surface wrinkled. Corolla pink to white, c. 5 cm; ovary 4-6 locular. Capsule subglobose; seeds thinly pubescent.
