Scapigerous herbs;
whole plant scabrous. Leaves radical, rossetted at base, obovate to oblong or
oblanceolate, base attenuate, margin crenate, apex obtuse or broadly acute,
strigose above; cauline leaves small, narrow, sessile, base amplexicaule.
Heads, homogamous, non-rayed, sessile, aggregated in dense, stalked
glomerules, substened by 3 ovate, reduced leaves.Involucral bracts 2-seriate,
scarious.Flowers 2-5, bisexual.Corolla purple.
