The leaves of Talinum portulacifolium are
eaten as a cooked vegetable or raw as a salad, alone or with young stem
parts.

Key botanical characters :
Erect
semi-succulent, glabrous herbs to 1 m tall; rootstock tuberous. Leaves
subsessile, alternate, obovate or oblanceolate, base cuneate, apex obtuse or
rounded. Inflorescence terminal, paniculate. Flowers pedicels to 1.2 cm long;
bracts 2-4 mm long, linear. Sepalsovate-lanceolate, acuminate. Petals 5,
pink, obovate.. Capsules globose. Seeds ovoid, black, striate.
