Key botanical characters:

Rhizome extensively creeping. Leafy shoot 1-1.75 m; leaves petiolate; lamina 30-65 x 5-11.5 cm, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, silvery silk pubescence below, upper glabrous; ligule 2-4 mm long, bilobed, glabrous.  Inflorescence borne on long slender creeping, sheath covered underground runner. Bracts 1.5-3 x 0.5-0.8 cm, oblong, membranous, glabrous. Flower white.  Capsule globular, 1.5-2 cm diameter with 7-8 ridges.
