Key botanical characters:

Terrestrial, perennial rhizomatous herb, 0.5–1 m high. Stem cylindrical, brown
or maroon, glabrous; Leaves alternate, petiolate; petiole 0.4–
1.2 cm long, brown or maroon, glabrous; lamina 9.5–19.5 × 4.8–9.6 cm, ovate
or obovate, Inflorescence terminal, peduncle short, 1–1.5 mm
long; spike c. 4.5 × c. 4.1 cm, conical, ovate or globose, red or maroon, appendaged,
one flower opened at a time. Bract numerous, closely arranged. Flower
bisexual, 8–9 × 4–5 cm long, boat shaped, white with red lines.
