Perennial herb, stoloniferous, . Roots rhizomatous, slender, short, stout and densely articulated.  Leaves simple, basal, ovate-lanceolate Flowers bisexual, zygomorphic, voilet or purplish with dark striations, fragrant, on long axillary pedicels,  . Stamens 5, hypogynous,.Fruit capsule, not seen.
