It is used in traditional
and folk medicine as
antitussive, anal- gesic and for the treatment of snake bite, ulcers, gas-
tropathy, leprosy and amenorrhea.

Botanical Characters :
Erect herbs, to 40 cm
high, glabrous. Leaves to 17 x 5 cm, elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate at both
ends; petiole to 5 cm long; stipule ovate, acute. Cymes
2-5 cm broad; peduncle to 6 cm long. Flowers densely packed; bracteoles curved-oblong, acute; calyx lobes ovate, glabrous; corolla tube with a ring of erect hairs at throat, lobes ovate, acute; anthers nearly
sessile. Capsule 2-winged, glabrous; seeds squarish, brown.
