Key botanical characters:

Rhizome tuberous, 1-2 cm thick, yellowish-green inside. Leafy shoot 2-3 m tall, branching not common. Leaves spirally arranged on the stem, shortly petiolate, petiole 3-5 mm long, densely hairy; lamina oblong-acuminate, lower surface densely hairy or sparsely hairy, upper surface glabrous. Inflorescence 3-10 x 2-5 cm, more or less globose, but lengthening with age, green or red. Bracts 1.5-3.5 x 0.7-1.5  cm,  ovate-acute,  with  narrow,  subapical protuberance, upto 5 mm long, glabrous or hairy along the margin, green or red. Flower white.
