The entire plant is used in TCM to relieve gas and help in digestion.
It clears urinary discharge, stops coughs and pain. It is also used to treat
traumatic injuries, fractures and snake bites.

Key
botanical characters:
Leaves brownish,
oblong-ensiform, acute. Scape flattened, adnated to upper most leaf. Spike to
18 cm long, with a distinct reflexed sterile tip. Flowers brick red, , pedicelled, in close verticils; bracts 2 x 1.8 mm, ovate, acute,
denticulate; dorsal sepal oblong, obtuse; lateral sepals ovate, acute; petals
lanceolate, acute; lip 2 x 2.5 mm, ovate in outline, 3-lobed; lateral lobes
oblong, ear-like; midlobe 2-lobuled; lobules oblong, truncate, diverging,
with broad sinus; disc ovate, saccate.
