Cultivated in garden for ornamental use, and for decoration of hairs.

Key botanical characters:

Rhizome 1.8–2.6 cm wide, creamy white internally, hyaline towards margins, slightly aromatic. Leafy shoot 58–88 cm high, erect or slightly slanting. Leaves  sessile; lamina 34–43 x 7.8–11.7 cm, oblong-lanceolate, bright green and glabrous above, light green and pubescent below, densely hairy below at midrib; margins hyalineundulate. Inflorescence 8–11 cm long, elliptic, erect, compact with imbricate bracts. Bracts 5–5.7 x 2–2.7 cm, broadly elliptic, light green, glabrous, puberulent towards tip, leathery, non-tubular, convolute; tip obtuse; cincinnus 3-flowered. Flower 13.8–14.5 cm long, white, straight, 1-many open at a time.
