Key
botanical Charcters
:
Aquatic or amphibious, erect herbs; roots spongy white. Basal
leaves decussate, oblong, base and apex acute, fleshy,
basally 3-nerved, sessile, decurrent on stem; upper ones reduced. Flowers
axillary, in decussate pairs, lower ones subsessile, upper ones pedicellate;
bracts linear;pedicels 6-12 mm long, filiform. Calyx-lobes 5,long,
obtuse. Corolla bluish-pink, 5 mm long; lobes 5, upper
lip covering the lower lip in bud. Stamens 2, included; anthers 2-celled,
lobes unequal, bearded. Ovary , globose; stigma 2-lamellate. Capsule globose, on erect pedicel. Seeds numerous, minute,
pitted,blackish brown.
