Key Botanical
Characters:
Caulescent
herbs; Leaves cauline, filiform. Peduncle many ,from the apex of the stem up to
15 cm long; Heads ovoid/hemispherical, black or grey. Involucral bracts obovate
,obtuse glabarous, straw coloured. Male Flowers: sepals 3, connate in to spathe, glabarous, black or straw coloured. Petals 3 ,minute, glabarous,without any
black gland. Female flowers: Sepals 3 free, subequal, oblong black or straw
coloured. Petals 3 subequal, spathulate. Seeds oblong-ellipsoid; cells of seed
coat transversly elongated; appendages 3-8 from the transverse radial walls, setiform, with mucilaginous coating above the appendages.
